Australia and New Zealand Society for Blood Transfusion (ANZSBT) Oct 2018 - October 2023

The clinical practice improvement committee are directly responsible for maintaining the guidelines for administering blood transfusions. This committee also plays a role in undertaking consultation with the National Blood Authority and various government bodies as to best practice where blood transfusions are concerned. As part of my work on this committee I have helped to develop guidelines for clinical practice including: "Guidelines for the Prescription of Blood and Blood Products by Nurse Practitioners" and "Guidelines for the implementation and use of electronic medical records for transfusion" which are national level documents used to guide daily clinical practice. We have also published together as a group making recommendations when implementing blood transfusion administration into electronic medical records.

Australian College of Perioperative Nurses – Board Member and Co-Education Chair (Queensland) Oct 2017 – Oct 2018

Responsible for coordinating a team to deliver the educational requirements of the state ACORN branch.  As part of this responsibility, I liaise with medical companies, hospitals, managers and clinicians to assist in the organisation of education days, and field questions regarding our capacity for meeting the educational needs of our members. This year, since taking on the role, education day attendance has doubled and the events now generate revenue. This opportunity has provided me with an expanded sphere of influence and greatly increased my network of contacts, particularly in the field of academia and research.

Project one: Rejuvenation of education day quality and engagement with members

Created and distributed a survey to assess learning needs of the organisation members. Required to interpret, analyse and synthesise results to ensure proposal of educational strategy meets actual need. Provided a convincing argument to other committee members to gain approval to proceed with a new formula for delivering education days. Liaised with, and secured, free of charge, a space on campus to accommodate in excess of 100 people to deliver the days. Liaised with, and secured significant sponsorship of the events to mitigate costs. Selected individuals based on ability and experience to deliver topics relevant to the theme. Subsequent support given to presenters to develop content and prepare for their presentation. Liaised with ancillary departments to ensure catering, and infrastructure needs were met. Development of own presentation with due consideration given to clinical ability and existing knowledge of participants, and integration of interactive components to facilitate learning of presented material. Fielding of questions from attending cohort. Also required to consult on research education content and delivery. Distribution of follow up survey to assess for satisfaction and respond to any identified common deficiencies.

Australian College of Perioperative Nurses – Education sub-committee member – 2017 - 2019

I am responsible for assessment and feedback on proposed educational resources. Active participation in regular online meetings is required. I was tasked with the creation and redesign of perioperative careers section of ACORN website and asked to deliver educational materials to ACORN members, specifically through the delivery of a webinar “Introduction to Neurosurgery. Also requested to assist directors with the provision of learning materials for Neurosurgical theatre nurses including a learning package. Supporting committee by providing feedback and carrying out utilisation tests on new tools to improve healthcare provision.

Australian College of Perioperative Nurses – Standards review faculty – 2017 - Current

The standards review faculty are fundamental to ensuring the creation of evidence-based guidelines which are used nationally as the gold standard in Perioperative care delivery. My involvement extends to systematically reviewing available evidence and appraising the quality of it to assist in deciding what aspects should be included in a new perioperative standard. I am actively involved in regular meetings and participate as a minutes taker.
